Hello and welcome to Steve Brettell's Little River Decoys and Striper Fishing!

Steve has been a professional decoy carver for over 25 years. During the winter months, he can be found in his woodworking shop in Biddeford, Maine producing some of the best sea duck, puddle duck, and shorebird decoys to be found. He also carves full-size fish, owls and other birds of prey, coyotes, pheasant, turkeys, and grouse, just to name a few. His work is highly sought after by collectors and duck hunters alike. Steve has served as an iconic figure in the decoy carving world at both the local and national levels. He received Best of Show at the New England Decoy Championship three years in a row and has won numerous times at the Ward World Championships in Maryland. In addition, Steve conducts carving classes at his work shop and has imparted his vast knowledge to hundreds of students and fellow carvers.

By mid-May, Steve has put down his tools and hits the Maine shores as a USCG-licensed guide and captain. Steve has a deep and abiding passion for the outdoors, and he loves sharing his knowledge and experiences with others. Capt. Steve has fished for striped bass (stripers) and bluefish with a fly rod long before it was considered popular and "mainstream." Over the years, Steve has taught a number of fly fishing/casting lessons, including classes at LL Bean in Freeport, Maine.
